Global Eye Care Experts Gather in Sussex to Celebrate Centre for Sight’s 30-Year Milestone

A major gathering of internationally respected ophthalmology professionals took place in East Grinstead as Centre for Sight marked three decades at the forefront of vision care. The anniversary event highlighted both the achievements of the past 30 years and the innovations expected to shape the future of eye treatment.

Founded by consultant ophthalmic surgeon Sheraz M. Daya in 1996, Centre for Sight welcomed leading clinicians, surgeons, innovators and entrepreneurs for a conference examining developments in sight preservation and vision correction.

Held at Alexander House Hotel in West Sussex, the conference, “30 Years of Vision: Crafting the Next Decade”, explored how advancements in technology and clinical practice have transformed patient outcomes. Topics included artificial intelligence, laser surgery, diagnostic innovation and evolving models of patient care.

Centre for Sight has spent three decades advancing refractive and cataract surgery while building a reputation for delivering highly specialised care and embracing new technologies.

The event brought together experts from around the world, reinforcing East Grinstead’s standing as an important location for ophthalmic excellence. Guests later attended a formal black-tie dinner, where television presenter, author and campaigner Katie Piper addressed attendees. Piper, founder of the Katie Piper Foundation, was treated successfully at Centre for Sight.

Among the speakers were Arthur Cummings, Erik Mertens, Amanda Carones, Francesco Carones, Michael Mrochen, Milind Pande, Pei Fen Lin, Aylin Kiliç, Andrea Russo, Andrew Webb, Saj Khan and Sheraz Daya.

Key discussions focused on emerging technologies, the future of cataract and refractive surgery, the increasing role of AI in clinical decision-making and the changing expectations of patients.

Sheraz M. Daya, Founder and Medical Director of Centre for Sight, said:

“Over the past 30 years ophthalmology has seen remarkable transformation driven by technology, research and the dedication of clinicians committed to improving vision and quality of life. This conference is an opportunity to reflect on that journey, share insights with colleagues and look ahead to the innovations that will define the next decade of patient care. East Grinstead has become an important centre for advanced eye care. We are proud to bring world class expertise to Sussex and to continue helping patients access the latest developments in vision treatment.”

Since opening in 1996, Centre for Sight has become one of the UK’s most established advanced eye care providers. Mr Daya has completed over 35,000 cataract operations and a similar volume of laser eye procedures. The centre is recognised for its expertise in complex treatments, commitment to innovation and focus on patient safety.
