Kirkham Grammar School is set to begin an important new phase after becoming part of an established international education organisation. The move brings significant long-term backing for one of the North West’s oldest and most respected independent schools, helping to secure its future while creating new opportunities for pupils, staff and the wider school community.
The school’s new owner, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Sanstha (MMYS), is an internationally recognised education organisation with schools in Australia, India and the United States. Led by an accomplished team of academics, researchers and innovators, MMYS has built a reputation for delivering holistic education that combines academic achievement with creativity, leadership, wellbeing, strong values and personal development.
Kirkham Grammar School will operate through Kirkham Grammar International School Limited, a company established by MMYS to provide strong governance, long-term stability and continued educational excellence.
While remaining true to its long-standing traditions, academic success and excellent pastoral care, the school will benefit from ongoing investment in facilities, boarding, sport, digital learning, staff development and international partnerships. Pupils will enjoy greater access to global learning opportunities, cultural exchanges and collaborative projects, particularly in STEM, engineering, innovation and future-focused education.
MMYS intends to protect the school’s historic identity and values while working alongside the existing leadership team, whose knowledge and commitment will play a key role in the school’s future.

Chair of Governors Mr Paul Ribchester said: “After carefully reviewing the school’s long-term financial outlook, the Governing Board recognised that rising operating costs, inflation, increased employer National Insurance contributions and the introduction of VAT on independent school fees meant the previous ownership model could no longer be sustained. This acquisition secures the school’s future and allows Kirkham Grammar School to continue delivering an outstanding education.”
