Health nightmare that ‘changed everything’ leads to dream job

WARFIELD, UK. June 2nd, 2026 – IT exec Alison Bell found the strength to follow her dream after a neck injury forced her to abandon her successful career.

Alison was already a follower of the teachings of self-help pioneer Louise Hay before unexpectedly finding herself at a crossroads.

“I had been in corporate for the best part of 20 years,” she said. “I was in IT security, IT sales, I had a European role, I was flying all around the world – and then I had to leave that career.

“My son came into our bedroom one morning and I thought he was going to be sick because he had been ill the day before. I sat bolt upright in bed – and that’s when it happened. I had trapped a nerve in my neck.

“That moment changed everything. That was the end of my IT career, basically, because in my last year of work I was a contractor, I wasn’t employed. All of a sudden I couldn’t work and I had to resign so they could recruit somebody to continue my European role.

“My son was four-years-old at the time and that’s when I realised – if you’ve not got your health, you’ve got nothing.. That was a real wake up call.”

Housebound and unable even to sit down, Alison threw herself into the on-line seminars hosted by Hay House, Louise Hay’s publishing company..

“That was in June 2018 – by the September I saw that Hay House were doing an ‘I Can Do It’ event with lots of speakers. Outside the main auditorium there were tables set up, one of which was a training company where you could train to become a “Heal Your Life” (HYL) workshop leader

“So I went along to an officially certified two-day workshop and it was transformational. They didn’t tell you what would be covered but you know when you just have to trust that life is showing you something for a reason..

“‘Not only had I gained valuable insights over these two days but I knew I would be sharing this powerful work for the rest of my life – there would be no retiring from this. I went on to train as a HYL workshop leader so I could deliver that workshop myself.

“I qualified in 2019 and I have been delivering workshops, 1-1 coaching and group programmes ever since. It is my dream job.”

Now Alison is planning a return to the corporate world – though in a very different capacity than her previous role.

“Leading with Heart and Mind is a powerful programme, designed with corporates in mind, which takes the Louise Hay philosophy into the business world,” she said.

“Businesses increasingly consider their employees not just as workers but as human beings in their own right, who have their own lives, values and creative talents.

“This programme helps to remove the self-limiting beliefs people have in their own mind and bring out the very best in the individual.

“When you combine that with a change in corporate culture, teams are more productive, energised and motivated, because they feel their contributions matter and they are valued.

“Louise Hay’s philosophy is that your thoughts create your life experience – if you think, very simply, that the world is out to get you, then you will be shown those experiences.

“But if you feel you are supported and everyone is kind and helpful, then life will reflect that back too.”
